Rapids Goalie Hopes Club Can 'Get Things Rolling' In Season's Second Half
DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado Rapids get the honor of hosting the MLS All Stars game this week, and it comes at a point in the season when things seem to finally be turning around.
Goalie Clint Irwin was a guest on Xfinity Monday Live and said even though the club hasn't won many games, there are some positives.
"We could definitely do a lot better," Irwin told CBS4's Vic Lombardi. "I think we've been pretty solid defensively. Just finding that balance of scoring goals while not letting them in at the same time, so hopefully the second half of the season we can get things rolling a little more."
The team is currently enjoying a three game win streak after a dismal start in which in game after game the team lost or tied opponents.
"Hopefully we can keep that going," Irwin said.
Rapids midfielder Dillon Serna, also a guest on the CBS4 Sports show, agreed that there's some positive momentum going on.
"There's still plenty of time to turn our season around. We're kind of right back in the middle of things," Serna said.
The MLS All Star Game takes place Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City. The MLS All Stars will be playing the Tottenham Hotpur of the English Premiere League.
The MLS All Stars are coached by Rapids coach and former player Pablo Mastroeni, and Rapids player Drew Moor is on the squad.
Irwin said the fact that his teammate Moor is on the team is "awesome."
"To come back from a torn ACL last year and play in an all-star game in front of the hometown fans, I can't imagine what that feeling's like," he said.
