Witnesses Say Lightning Struck Castle Rock Home Just Before Fire

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) - Lightning is suspected in a house fire in Castle Rock Tuesday afternoon.

The fire broke out at a home on Brilliance Drive in The Meadows at approximately 3 p.m.

"According the eye witnesses, the house was struck by lightning just before the fire broke out," KerriAnne Mukhopadhyay with Castle Rock Fire and Rescue said in a statement.

Mukhopadhyay said two people reportedly live in the home but weren't home at the time. One of two cats was found but the other is missing.

Firefighters from Castle Rock Fire and Rescue, South Metro Fire Authority, Larkspur Fire Protection District and Jackson County Fire Departments responded to the scene.

The official cause of the fire is still under investigation
