Police Believe Estranged Husband Stabbed Mother Of 5 To Death In Castle Rock

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) - Police say victims assistance has been helping five children of a woman stabbed to death in Castle Rock cope with the knowledge that their father allegedly forced his way into the house and killed their mother.

The attack happened early Saturday morning at a home on Amherst Street in the Founders Village neighborhood. Police received a call saying an intruder was inside the home.

"An estranged husband had made his way into the home and was encountering his wife, a female, who was later found deceased," Cmdr. Jason Lyons with Castle Rock police said.

Police say she was stabbed to death with the husband, 44, severely injuring himself.

"He's in custody right now. He's been transported to the hospital to receive treatment for what we think will be self-inflicted injuries," Lyons said.

Neighbors told CBS4 the mother, 36, with a 5-year-girl and four older brothers moved in just a few days ago to be with her mother and an uncle.

"Right now it does look like there was forced entry," Lyons said.

"I think it's heartbreaking, they've lost both their parents," neighbor Brandy Heins said.

A victim's assistance team is working with the children.

"Conducting interviews of those children who may have witnessed some piece of this criminal activity and are providing consultative services for them," Lyons said.

Police have yet to release the names of those involved.
