Firefighters Headed For Canada To Fight Wildfires
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Five federal firefighting crews are scheduled to leave the Grand Junction Regional Airport on Sunday for wildland fire assignments in Canada.
Canada is experiencing an above normal fire season this year and Canadian officials requested help from U.S wildland firefighters. Canadian firefighters supported U.S. federal firefighting crews in Colorado during the 2012 fire season.
The wildland fire crews have up to 20 firefighters per crew. Four crews are from the U.S. Forest Service and one is from both the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management.
The majority of the fires burning in Canada are in Saskatchewan and Alberta provinces.
