DENVER (CBS4)- Police believe a teenager wanted in connection with a murder may be getting help hiding from authorities. An arrest warrant has been issued for Israel Alvarado after a man was killed during an attempted SUV theft.

"We're looking for a 16-year-old juvenile by the name of Israel Alvarado," said Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

Investigators believe Alvarado, who also goes by the name "Izzy" is responsible for attempting to steal a Volvo from the El Mechanico auto body shop located at 3151 West Alameda Avenue in Denver on July 3.

William Romo-Rodriguez died trying to stop the would-be-thief after police said that he had been "ejected from a vehicle while attempting to stop a suspect" from stealing a customer's SUV."

Police believe Alvarado may be in Colorado Springs. He's wanted for first-degree murder. Police say once Alvarado is arrested he will be charged as an adult. It's possible someone is harboring Alvarado, which is also a crime.

"People who are hiding him are committing a crime if they are doing that," said Jackson.

Police haven't released a picture of Alvarado because they are still doing line-ups with witnesses.

"We're asking anybody who may recognize him to contact authorities right away. He's wanted for first-degree murder," said Jackson.

Alvarado will be charged as an adult once he is captured.
