Man Accused Of Assaulting Deputy At Taco Festival Formally Charged

DENVER (CBS4) - A man accused of assaulting a Denver sheriff's deputy at the Taco Festival last weekend has been formally charged.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Michael A. Martinez, 35, has been charged with second-degree assault on a peace officer for the incident that occurred last Saturday.

"Martinez was approached by a deputy at the Taco Festival at 35th and Wynkoop Streets," Kimbrough said in a statement. "The charge alleges that Martinez was intoxicated and as the deputy tried to guide him out of the area Martinez turned around and hit the deputy. He was taken into custody without further incident."

Martinez was released from custody on a $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 15 for his second advisement.
