Officers Focus On Boating Under The Influence

LITTLETON, Colo. (AP) — Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Lake County Sheriff's Office are taking part in a nationally coordinated effort to reduce the number of accidents and deaths related to boating under the influence.

During this three-day weekend, officers will be on the water reminding boaters about the dangers of boating under the influence and seeking boaters who are impaired as part of what they are calling Operation Dry Water.

Authorities say a leading factor in boater related deaths is alcohol use. The penalties are the same as driving under the influence of alcohol.

Many lakes, reservoirs and rivers in Colorado are considered public property, so open display or use of marijuana is also illegal.
