Air Medical Crew Members Honored For Giving Their Lives While Trying To Save Others

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4)- Families and colleagues gathered on Friday to honor air medical crew members who have given their lives while trying to save others.

Nearly 400 names were placed on the International Air Medical Memorial in Littleton when it opened on Friday.

Organizers say it's important to honor those lost crew members the same way other first responders and military are recognized.

For the families the memorial is a place of solace.

"It's wonderful to know that there are people walking around today who are alive and well, thanks to the people that they'll never know who made a difference in their lives. And I think that's the most important thing," said Bob Serkey.

Serkey's daughter, Rebecca, died in New Mexico last summer.

Six medical helicopters landed at the memorial as part of the remembrance ceremony.
