No Charges For CSU Vet Grad Who Killed Cat With Bow And Arrow

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4/AP) — A Texas grand jury has declined to indict a graduate of Colorado State University's veterinary program who bragged on social media about killing a cat with an arrow.

The Houston-area veterinarian was fired from her job at a Texas animal clinic in April after the controversial Facebook post went viral.

The Austin County district attorney's office said in a statement Wednesday there was insufficient proof to indict Dr. Kristen Lindsey for animal cruelty.

The statement says investigators received an unconfirmed report that Lindsey may have believed the cat was rabid and shot it to protect her animals.

A picture on Facebook that was later removed showed her holding the cat by the arrow shaft. The caption of the photo read, "My first bow kill, lol. The only good feral  tomcat is one with an arrow through its head! Vet of the  year award ... gladly accepted."

No telephone listing for Lindsey could be found so she could comment on Wednesday's development. It was immediately clear whether she had an attorney who could comment.

CBS News reports the cat was named Tiger and that the pet-sitter spoke with KHOU on Wednesday.

"He went missing at the time, and when I saw the picture in my heart I knew it was him," Amy Hemsell said. "I'm hoping that she is punished to the fullest extent for animal cruelty."
