CDOT Celebrates U.S. 36 Construction Milestone
DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado Department of Transportation is one step closer to being finished with construction on U.S. 36.
On Monday CDOT, Gov. John Hickenlooper and several mayors celebrated the end of construction on the Boulder Turnpike between Federal Boulevard and 88th Avenue.
The new express lanes are in place and already open to traffic.
"We're going to open up the project that people have been waiting for a long time, taking 90,000 vehicles a day, adding capacity ... it's incredibly exciting," said Shailen Bhatt, CDOT Executive Director.
CDOT won't start charging for the express lanes until sometime next month. Those who plan on using them -- even just to use them as an HOV vehicle -- will need to get a transponder. Visit codot.gov/programs/expresslanes for more information on the project and expresstoll.com to get a pass.
