Boaters Can Expect Big Delays At Cherry Creek State Park This Weekend

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Boaters heading to Cherry Creek State Park this weekend can expect some delays. The reservoir is at capacity and one of the ramps is closed.

Only the east boat ramp is open for the weekend. Boaters typically have to wait one to two hours to get on the water, but it could be even longer this weekend.

Boaters can expect a nearly five hour wait. The delay from the boat ramp closure is compounded because once the reservoir meets its capacity, about 160 boats, one boat has to come off the water before another can go on.

"So this is the only dock and as you can see here it's just crazy how the water levels are rising and they said about a 4-5 hour wait on the ramps this week so Father's Day, you better get out here early or you won't get on the lake," said boater David Crandall.

Park officials said if you want to avoid those wait times boaters can try Boyd Lake and Jackson Lake State Parks.

Boat inspections at Cherry Creek State Park begin at 6 a.m.
