'Kurios' By Cirque Du Soleil Full Of Creative, Death Defying Acts

DENVER (CBS4) - "Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities," had its opening debut under the Big Top on the Pepsi Center grounds Thursday evening.

From the very first moments of the opening number of Kurios, you get the sense that no matter how many Cirque shows you have been to, this will be different, CBS4 Critic at Large Greg Moody said. His review is as follows:

The lighting, the design, the characters -- from Mr. Microcosmos to Clara -- step out of a world that is somehow both real and imaginary at the same time. It bends your sense of what is possible on stage, in new and wonderful ways.

There are some standard Cirque acts here, if any Cirque acts could be called standard. A few stood out as some of the most inventive, creative, and death defying acts I've ever seen on any stage.

There's the Acronet -- a standard circus safety net stretched tight that bounces performers 30, 40, 50 feet in the air. You realize that the team must be in perfect synchronization, not only to launch the performer, but bring them safely to a stop.

Then there's the standard chair balance routine that grows from the stage. What you don't notice at first is that a mirror image of the chair building is coming down from the ceiling. My heart was in my throat for both performances.

Honestly, I don't see how you can top the show with any other performance that has rolled through town.

It's rich, clever, inventive, and real -- surreal. And seemingly physically impossible. What can I say? Kurios is brilliant.

Kurios by Cirque Du Soleil is now open under the Big Top Tent on the Pepsi Center Grounds. You can find tickets here.
