Bear Goes On Rampage After Getting Stuck Inside Pickup Truck

EVERGREEN, Colo. (CBS4) - An Evergreen couple had a rude awakening in the middle of the night when they realized there was a bear inside their truck.

Dave Masters told CBS4 he and his wife woke up early Friday morning at their home on Ponderosa Way to the sound of their vehicle's horn honking outside their home.

"I'm like 'Wait a second.' Then I looked at my wife's truck. The lights were flashing on and off and it's moving all over the place and I'm like 'There's a bear in there,' " Masters said.

Plan A for trying to get the 200 pound bear out was the truck's remote starter.

"We started the truck figuring maybe we'll scare it off, but it seemed to get even more pissed off," Masters said.

The Masters then called authorities for help. Three Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies showed up and parked next to the truck and opened the door.

"He popped his head out and he came running out," Masters said.

Soon afterwards the Masters discovered that while the bear was in the truck he had torn much of the interior apart.

"When we opened the door I thought my wife was going to have a heart attack," Masters said. "It was trashed. Completely trashed. He tore up the ceiling, tood the rear view mirror off. The whole dashboard was ripped up. The seats were demolished. The wiring was all ripped out.

Masters says there was no food in the truck at the time and he isn't sure why the bear was attracted to it.

Masters said he's seen bears in the area recently. He said he hopes this one is "going to eat berries from here on out and leave us alone."
