Parents Turn In Kids After Seeing Graffiti Vandals On News

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4)- Police said a group of parents saw their own children in surveillance video on news reports about graffiti vandalism and they turned them in to authorities.

Last week, the Castle Rock Police Department released video to CBS4 and social media outlets asking for the public's help in finding at least three suspects caught on surveillance camera spraying painting Butterfield Park.

A total of 14 sites were tagged throughout Castle Rock, Art Around the Rock murals located along trails, the Meadows and downtown.

Three suspects have been identified and interviewed after their parents brought them to Castle Rock Police late Wednesday morning. The names of the males have not been released because they are minors, ages 14, 15 and 17. The younger two live in Castle Rock and the 17-year-old lives in Castle Pines.

"Caring for our Town is a community effort," said Castle Rock Police Chief Jack Cauley in a statement. "We appreciate everyone who shared the videos, and we especially thank the parents who did the right thing, even though it was difficult. Now, as a community, we can move forward."

The suspects have been released pending charges in the 18th Judicial District but police have recommended the charges include criminal mischief, which would have been a felony if the suspects had been adults, and trespassing.
