Aurora Man Gets Life In Prison, No Parole For Fatal Shooting

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — A 24-year-old who shot a man to death in front of his family in Aurora has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office says Del Dawan Bankett, of Aurora, was sentenced Thursday for the Jan. 11, 2014, death of 22-year-old Arturo Arguelles-Chavez, also of Aurora. Bankett was convicted in April of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.

Prosecutors say Arguelles-Chavez was shot twice in the chest and robbed as he met Bankett to buy an iPhone for $200. Arguelles-Chavez's wife and two young children were in the car at the time of the shooting.

Investigators later discovered that $190 in cash was missing from the Arguelles-Chavez's wallet.

Bankett was given two sentence enhancements related to the violent crime and the use of a weapon.
