Suspicious Package 'Safe' After Evacuation Of Town In Fremont County

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The Pueblo Bomb Squad has determined a suspicious package, that forced part of a town in Fremont County to be evacuated, was not a threat.

A suspicious package was found at a business in Penrose on Wednesday morning.

Dispatch sent out a reverse 911 at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to Penrose residents and businesses within a three mile radius of Estes to evacuate.

Roads surrounding Estes, a company that manufactures model rockets, were closed during the investigation. Evacuees from Penrose were advised to go to the elementary school in Florence.

All roads that were closed during the investigation, Highway 50 from Highway 115 east to R Street, were reopened at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The nature of the suspicious package, where it was found and who discovered it have not been released.

No injuries were reported on Wednesday afternoon.

Penrose is located about 100 miles from Denver.
