DNA Proves Bear Put Down Was Animal In Attacks

DURANGO, Colo. (CBS4)- Wildlife officials confirm that the bear put down after attacking a man was the same bear wanted in another attack a week earlier.

DNA testing proved that the bear that attacked Joshua Barber on May 31 at an illegal campsite outside of Durango was the same bear that attacked people a week earlier.

"He tackled me twice, man. He bit me like six times... stuck his claws in my chest," said Barber.

Barber was one of several people camping illegally in the area of Durango when the attacks happened last month.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife said piles of garbage that had piled up at the camp attracted the bear.
