Tulo Jokes About Drafting A Shortstop: 'I'll Probably Give Him The Cold Shoulder'

DENVER (CBS4) - Some Colorado Rockies fans were a little surprised the team drafted a shortstop with their number one pick Monday night.

The Rockies used the No. 3 over pick to draft shortstop Brendan Rodgers, 18, out of Lake Mary High School in Florida. He hit .360 with eight homers and 23 RBIs in 2015 and also turned 15 double plays.

The last time the Rockies used their first pick on a shortstop was in 2005 when they picked Troy Tulowitzki with the No. 7 overall pick.

Rodgers won't be big league ready for at least a couple of years, so the Rockies current shortstop doesn't have too much to worry about.

"You know he's probably trying to take my job, so I better get my act together because I hear he is a pretty good player," Tulowitzki said jokingly. "I saw his interview, I know they mentioned my name. I think he said I was going to give him some tips, but I probably will give him no tips. I'll probably give him the cold shoulder, not talk to him at all and keep that edge and make it tough for him."

Rodgers said he doesn't care what level of baseball he starts at but is just eager to get going.
