Denver Police Department Makes Policy Change In Wake Of Jessie Hernandez Death

DENVER (CBS4) - CBS4 has learned there has been a major policy change for the Denver Police Department concerning officers firing their weapons.

Officers are no longer allowed to shoot at moving cars if the vehicle itself is the only thing considered a weapon.

The news comes just days after the decision to clear the officers involved in the shooting death of Jessica Hernandez. The teenager was driving a stolen car and refused orders to stop. Officers opened fire when they say she tried to run them down.

Under the new policy officers could not shoot in a situation like that.

CBS4 reached out to the Hernandez family about the policy change but they declined comment.
