Metro State To Host The 2016 Division II Men's & Women's Golf Championships

DENVER (CBS4) - The NCAA announced Monday that Metropolitan State University of Denver will host the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Golf Championships in 2016.

According to Andy Schlichting, Sports Information Director at Metro State, the men's championship will be held May 17-21 at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club; and the women's championship will be held at CommonGround May 18-21.

The men's tournament will consist of 108 golfers representing 28 institutions and the women's will have 72 golfers representing 24 institutions. It's all part of the Division II Spring Championships Festival that will crown six national champions in one weekend in Denver.

"We are extremely excited for the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Golf Championships to be hosted in Denver at Green Valley Ranch and CommonGround as part of the 2016 NCAA Division II Spring Championships Festival," said John Baldwin, assistant director of championships and alliances for the NCAA. "We are confident that our student-athletes will enjoy competing on courses with great championship pedigree, and we look forward to crowning a couple of national champions in May 2016."

According to Schlichting, Green Valley Ranch and CommonGround are both home courses to the Roadrunners women's golf team.

The women Roadrunners began competitive play in the NCAA last year and won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship this spring in only their second year of competition.
