Kurios Chair Act Takes Balancing To New Heights

DENVER (CBS4)- Cirque du Soleil continues to amaze audiences in its latest show coming to Denver. "Kurios" will open at the Pepsi Center in the parking lot next month.

One act take the talent of one man to the top, literally.

Performer Andrii Bondarenko works backstage every day to perfect his balance and to perfect an act that simply takes the audiences' breath away.

"I'm climbing on the chairs, I build the column with the chairs and I do some hand balance and some tricks on the chairs," said Bondarenko. "Eventually there is some crazy idea and maybe I'm not going to tell you now, it's better to watch the show. The people are usually very surprised."

The audience is not only surprised but stunned by what many describe as one of the most intriguing acts they've ever seen in a Cirque du Soleil show.

As Bondarenko builds his tower of chairs from the stage, in a mirror effect aerialists build the same tower down from the fly space.

"Originally it's not supposed to be this show, the chair act is not supposed to be in the show. But a few weeks before the premiere, the creator of the show decided to put this act in the show," said Bondarenko.

The act took months to perfect because it is incredibly dangerous. And entertaining.

"You need to be very careful with art and one mistake can make something not good," said Bondarenko.

Kurios is at the Pepsi Center from June 11- July 26.
