A-Basin Extends Ski Season Until Mid-June

ARAPAHOE BASIN, Colo. (CBS4)- Recent winter storms have resulted in good news for skiers and boarders-- Arapahoe Basin Ski Area has extended its ski season for another bonus weekend.

A-Basin has received nearly 50 inches of snow so far this month. Now the ski area has extended its season through the weekend of June 12-14.

The ski area originally planned to close on Sunday, June 7 but winter decided it wasn't done yet.

A-Basin has received 84 inches of snow since April 16. The ski area's elevation of 10,780 feet, combined with cold temperatures, have allowed the ski area to remain open longer than any ski area in the state.

A-Basin opened Oct. 17, 2014 and is only one of three ski areas still open in North America.

"With our snowy and cool spring weather, the skiing conditions are better than we have seen for years at this time in May," said Alan Henceroth, Arapahoe Basin Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in a statement. "We will be re-opening for at least one more long weekend."

Regular services will continue all week through June 7. After that day, ski lifts and skier services will be closed Monday through Thursday. A-Basin ski area will reopen for lift-served skiing and boarding June 12 through June 14 with limited skier services.

During the bonus weekend the Black Mountain Express and Lenawee Mountain lifts will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
