Denver Mother Shames Daughter On Facebook: 'I Would Do It Again'

DENVER (CBS4)- A Denver mother is getting support and even praise online in response to a video she posted on Facebook where some say she shamed her daughter. The woman said she was trying to teach her daughter a lesson about the dangers of the internet.

"Don't cry now, you weren't crying when you were posting pictures on Facebook was you? In a bra!" said mother Valerie Starks seen in an online video.

Starks said she took the video showing her scolding her daughter after she found a Facebook page where the 13-year-old misrepresented herself as 19 and posted a picture of herself in a bra.

Starks said it wasn't the first time she has dealt with Facebook issues and her daughter. This time, she decided grounding her daughter wasn't the answer so she took her concerns directly to the place where they started-- Facebook.

"So you've got a Facebook page with your bra on? Is that what you do? Is that what you do?" asked Starks in the video.

Her daughter answered, "No."

But Starks continued, "We've established that you're not a freak, you don't sit at home with a bra on, makeup and take pictures like that and don't have no lace panties."

Starks said she became scared when she saw friend requests from much older men, strangers, on her daughter's Facebook page.

She said she wanted to teach her child a lesson before it was too late.

"I feel like with that video, she's so embarrassed that she's like, 'I don't want anyone to see me on there, even with a regular page.' That was my goal to let her know you're not going to do this, she's on there with racy photos saying, 'Pick me, pick me internet predator.' I'm not okay with it. I would do it again if I had to," said Starks.

Starks said she has gotten 5,000 friend requests because of the video. She also said she hopes her daughter has finally gotten the message.
