84-Year-Old Uses Life Alert To Call For Help During Robbery

PUEBLO, Colo. (CBS4)- An 84-year-old Pueblo woman used her Life Alert button to call for police when two men forced their way into her home.

Betty purchased the Life Alert because she was concerned about a fall or some other sort of medical emergency but she used it for another reason to call for help.

"I said, 'Please don't hurt me,'" said Betty.

On Saturday, two men forced their way into her home, claiming they were checking for gas leaks, then pushed her to the floor.

"They said they were from the gas company, there was a leak up the street and they needed to come and check my house," said Betty. "I said, 'No, you're not coming in my house' but before I could even get the whole sentence out they pushed me in the house and pushed me into the kitchen area and threw me down to the floor."

They took cash and trinkets and then left.

Once they left, Betty realized she could call for help.

"When I was sure it was quiet I pushed my Life Alert button, talked to the person in charge, asked her to please have the police come and help me get off the floor and here I am," said Betty. "I refuse to live in fear... I'm going to stay in my home."

Betty has some bruises but will recover.

Police have not caught the men who robbed Betty.
