Large Bond Set For Man Accused Of Killing, Dismembering Future Mother-In-Law

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - A man accused in the brutal killing of his future mother in law appeared in court Thursday morning.

John Edward Brant, 32, is being held on a $500,000 bond. He appeared in court shackled at the hands and feet and is now facing a first-degree murder charge.

Brant is accused of killing his fiancé's mother Jackie Degarmo, 55, after some sort of confrontation. Hikers in Clear Creek County discovered Degarmo's dismembered body wrapped in a blue tarp.

When deputies sent out photos to law enforcement of a distinctive tattoo on the victim, Englewood detectives connected it missing person case.

Court documents have now been sealed and the judge also granted a gag order on Thursday.
