No Sign Of Missing Tuber After 2-Day Search

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Rescue crews in Boulder called off their search for a missing tuber late Tuesday night. They had been looking for the man since he disappeared on Monday in Boulder Creek.

During a near two-day search, rescue swimmers from Boulder and Longmont sifted through a stretch of Boulder Creek in hopes of finding 35-year-old Chris Danko.

"We've created multiple teams starting at different points and searching simultaneously," said Joe Gross of Boulder Swift Water Rescue.

Boulder police say Danko went tubing in the creek around 8:30 p.m. Monday, and was reportedly under the influence when he jumped in.

Danko's friend, Daniel Linnenkamp, 22, told the Boulder Daily Camera they were drinking and using marijuana that night. Danko's mother told CBS4 that her son was also taking prescription pain killers for a recent back injury.

While Danko was in the creek, Linnenkamp followed him along on a skateboard until he lost sight of Danko in the fast-moving water.

Officials say the creek is running at about 7 miles per hour, at a temperature of 40 degrees.

Using 10-foot poles, 32 divers searched the frigid water on Tuesday, but after several strenuous hours there was no sign of Danko.

"There are areas we can't reach with our 10 foot search poles," said Gross.

Danko's parents told CBS4 they're still hopeful their son got out of the creek on his own, and is perhaps disoriented.

When Danko's sister was asked if her brother knew how to swim, she was not able to say.

Boulder police said unless they receive new information on Danko's whereabouts, they will not search the creek on Wednesday.
