Man Struck By Lightning At City Park Golf Course Was Under A Tree

DENVER (CBS4) - Lightning struck a man at City Park Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.

The lightning strike happened just before 5 p.m. The man was standing under a tree when he was struck near the third green off 26rd Avenue.

Police said the man was jogging when he went under the tree to seek shelter during the storm. That's when he was struck by lightning.

He was in stable condition when he was rushed to the hospital, but his condition is currently not known.

The man had a large-breed dog with him that appeared to have survived the strike.

CBS4's Mark Taylor was on scene and reported a large tree had been split down the middle from the strike.

There were thunderstorms with heavy rain and lightning over the area at the time of the lightning strike. Doppler4000 measured 73 cloud-to-ground strikes in 30 minutes in the metro area.

Officials at the golf course pulled all golfers inside when the storm moved in. They closed the course for approximately 30 minutes before it was reopened. The Pro Shop employee told CBS4 "they're golfing at their own risk."
