For Family Of Woman Missing For 25 Years, There's Only Been 1 Suspect

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - There's a renewed effort to solve a 25-year-old Colorado missing person case. The family of Nancy Lynn Begg Shoupp spoke with CBS4's Matt Kroschel about their loss and the questions that still remain.

"Her kids were her life, she absolutely adored her kids," said Sue Kirkham, Nancy's mother.

She was just 28 years old when she vanished on April 28, 1990.

"It definitely has left a big hole," said Diane Hutchins, Nancy's sister. "But you always hope that a certain day something is going to happen, they are going to find something. On the news if you hear they found human remains somewhere, in a way you want it to be her, so we would have an answer. Another part you is like, 'Please, no.' "

For Nancy's family there has only ever been one suspect -- Nancy's husband Steve Shoupp. Ten days before she disappeared Nancy had served Steve Shoupp divorce papers. The last time she was heard from alive she was going to meet Steve to pick up her children.

"When he wouldn't talk to anybody and he wouldn't come forward and help at all -- your suspicions just grow more and more," Hutchins said.

Nancy's car was found at her apartment complex in Arapaho County and her children's car seats were inside. In her apartment a blood stain was found on the carpet as investigators worked to find clues.

"Your kids are not supposed to go before their parents, and we've never been taught how to handle that," Kirkham said.

Kirkham knows an arrest won't bring her daughter back, but she holds on to faith that her daughter's killer will be brought to justice.

"I feel that I have great faith that she is in Heaven and nothing can hurt her now," she said.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office cold case investigators want the public's help. She was last seen leaving Boulder heading to her home in Arapahoe County.

Steve Shoupp did not return CBS4's calls to comment on his wife's disappearance.
