10-Year-Old's Death Investigated As 'Suspicious' In Wheat Ridge

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (CBS4)- Police are investigating the death of a 10-year-old boy in Wheat Ridge that detectives are calling suspicious.

"Right now we are investigating this as a suspicious death. We have executed several search warrants on the apartment in question... where we have gathered several things of interest to us," said Wheat Ridge Police spokesman John Romero.

Police said they are calling the boy's death suspicious because of his age and his history of medical issues. The grandmother of the child with developmental disabilities called 911 about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, saying that her grandson was unresponsive.

Officers confirm they have been called to the apartment in the 2600 block of Chase Street on several occasions. The boy was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"There are people coming and going from the apartment," said neighbor Chad Ozzello.

The coroner said the autopsy has been completed. More details about his death should be released once investigators finish their search of the child's extensive medical records.
