Sambrailo On Playing With Manning: 'One Of The Greatest Things I Get To Do'

DENVER (CBS4)- The Denver Broncos second-round draft pick, Colorado State University offensive lineman Ty Sambrailo, said he was rooting for the Broncos to pick him on draft day.

"This was one of the teams that I was rooting for. I wanted to be here, wanted to stay in the state and I love it here. This is a perfect situation for me, so I think I couldn't have drawn up any better myself," said Sambrailo.

Sambrailo is the first CSU Ram to be selected by the Broncos in the draft since Bradlee Van Pelt in 2004.

A California native, Sambrailo is well-versed in the Broncos' roster. He packs 315 pounds on his 6-foot-5 frame, has superior athleticism for a man of his size, something Broncos General Manager and Executive Vice President of Football John Elway understands.

"His athleticism, the way he plays the game, he plays with a chip on his shoulder, he's tough. As I said, he's got versatility. You know, he's our kind of guy," said Elway. "We were hoping he was going to make it to us and we're fortunate he did."

After 15 years without a draft pick in the first three rounds, CSU has had four in the past two years. Sambrailo believes that is no coincidence.

"I think it kind of snowballs. You kind of have talent that builds on itself and raises up the guys around them. The class ahead of me and the class before that were kind of the start, you know, of the mentality of what we wanted to be as a football team and I think that's kind of continued," said Sambrailo.

Sambrailo was 6 years old when Peyton Manning was drafted by the NFL. But he's not letting that fact get in the way of the game.

"I think it's a great opportunity that I have ahead of me. I think playing for a guy like Peyton is going to be one of the greatest things I get to do in my life," said Sambrailo.
