2 Jurors In Theater Shooting Trial Know Witnesses

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4)- Two jurors in the Aurora theater shooting trial know witnesses in the case. That information halted court proceedings for a time on Wednesday.

The judge had to make a decision quickly on whether to keep them on the panel.

A female juror was questioned off camera by Arapahoe County Judge Carlos Samour after she indicated that she knew Maria Carbonell, a victim who testified a day earlier. Her son attends a school where the juror works.

"I don't recall a conversation with her of any length at any time," said the juror.

"Do you have any concerns about your ability to be a fair and impartial juror in this case?" asked Samour.

The juror told the judge there was no problem and she was allowed to stay.

Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the July 2012 shooting that killed 12 people and left dozens more injured. Trial

The next witness was shooting victim Alex Espinoza but the judge stopped the trial when he realized a male juror had indicated he knew the victim through business and then friendship.

"Have he ever mentioned anything about this case or related to this case?" asked Samour.

The juror said there was one time.

The juror is the one who survived the 1999 Columbine High School shooting. The juror was asked if he could put his limited relationship with the witness aside.

"I think it would be naive to say that, especially hearing his testimony, that I would feel the same as any of these folks I don't know personally, I think that's silly," said the juror.

But he went on to tell the judge that he could be impartial.

Samour was satisfied, "I think he's a very thoughtful person."

Both jurors were allowed to stay on the panel for now to determine Holmes' fate.
