Driver In Fatal Hit & Run Suspected Of Intentional Run Down

DENVER (CBS4) - Two pedestrians were involved in a fatal hit and run early Sunday morning when a vehicle swerved into them.

Both people were transported by ambulance from the scene at West Kentucky Avenue and South Perry Street to the hospital, where Armando Rodriguez-Uribe was pronounced dead.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner said blunt force injuries were the cause of death. The other man had minor injuries.

The driver is suspected of intentionally running down his victims after a fight broke out at a nightclub several blocks away.

Sammantha Bustamante, a few houses down from the scene, woke up around 2 a.m. on Sunday to a loud commotion.

"Like what's going on?  And that's when I looked out the window, saw that truck swerving all over, and ram back in, hit that guy, and took off. I was like, oh my god, this is too much," Bustamante said.

Police said it was no accident, and the driver hit one man then ran over another outside of a house party.

Bustamante said "Everybody was out here screaming, 'help him, help him!' It was crazy. He was bad. He didn't get up after he hit the ground, he didn't move."

Next door to Bustamante, Jack McCollum awoke to flashing lights.

"The children, they heard them screaming, and my daughter is the one who called 911," he said.

Witnesses originally told police they saw a dark colored pickup truck, but police have said that description is incorrect.

There is currently no suspect vehicle in custody, and police would like the public's help in finding it. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
