Denver Police Department Takes 4 Edward R. Murrow Awards Into Custody

DENVER (CBS4) - The Denver Police Department announced Thursday its Media Relations Unit has been honored with four regional Edward R. Murrow awards for three videos highlighting the department.

The Edward R. Murrow awards are given out annually by the Radio Television Digital News Association for recognition of excellence in journalism, and CBS4 was also a winner of two regional Murrow awards this year.

"We are honored to be recognized by such a distinguished organization for our efforts in communicating to our community," Chief Robert White said in a statement. "Use of video is another means of transparency and we will continue to utilize high quality videos and other innovative means so that our citizens are aware of the amazing work our officers do on a daily basis."

The department's four Region Three Non-Broadcast Affiliated Organizations Small Online News Organization awards are for the following videos:

• Video Feature Reporting for Active Shooter: It's Not a Matter of If
• Video Documentary for An Officer's Life at 5280: Coach Sloan
• Video Sports for Coach Sloan: Today's Your Day to Be Great
• Use of Video for An Officer's Life at 5280: The Decision to Shoot

The videos will now compete with other organizations for national recognition. Winners will be announced in June.
