Atheist Group Reaches Settlement With School

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4)- The atheist group American Humanist Association has reached a settlement with a Douglas County school.

The two were battling over whether a charter school was engaging in religious fundraising. The lawsuit claimed Skyview Academy in Highlands Ranch endorsed programs that promote Christianity.

The settlement states the school can no longer sponsor religious charities or encourage students to join religious programs.

"Using public school resources to support evangelical programs violates the law and marginalizes non-Christian students," said Roy Speckhardt, executive director of the American Humanist Association. "We hope the school will promote charitable giving by working with an organization that does not promote religion."
