7-Year-Olds Walk Away From School, Prompts Policy Review

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Two 7-year-old boys walked away from Pleasant View Elementary School during recess on Tuesday which has prompted policy review from the Jeffco School District.

The children were found near Colfax Avenue and 6th Avenue, a half-mile away from their school.

Family of students who attend the school are stunned.

"They're so cautious, I can't believe that happened, really?" said grandmother Pat Pierson.

"Makes me feel like the kids are not safe," said parent Danny Noum.

The Jeffco School District issued this statement: "The employees at Pleasant View Elementary had one single purpose after the two students did not re-enter the classroom and that was to search the entire campus as a team to find them."

Deputies said abut 15 minutes passed from when the students were last seen and school officials realized they were gone.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office had several deputies searching the area for the boys and even had a bloodhound en route to help find them.

The boys told deputies they got in trouble for something on the playground and they made a plan to run away.
