Family Justice Center Gets $1 Million Grant During Crime Victims' Week

DENVER (CBS4)- Domestic violence victims and their children will be the recipients of a $1 million grant that was awarded to the Rose Andom Center on Tuesday.

The City of Denver is building the center which will help domestic violence victims and their children. The center will put services like housing referrals, medical care, legal services and counseling all in one place.

"Every year in Denver alone, more than 4,000 cases of domestic violence are reported. I find that number intolerable which is why I'm proud to announce that the Colorado Attorney General's Office is joining with Ms. Rose Andom, the Denver Justice Council and the City to do something tangible and visible about the problem," said Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman.

The money for the grant came from the National Mortgage Settlement in which Colorado joined 49 states in an historic joint state-federal settlement with the country's five largest mortgage servicers.

The Rose Andom Center is named for Rose Andom who donated the first million dollars.
