Denver Zoo Expansion Approved By City Council

DENVER (CBS4)- The Denver City Council heard from the public about changes to the Denver Zoo at its Monday night meeting. The council approved the expansion with only one vote against the proposal.

Neighbors of the zoo have complained about the exterior view to the south, but the zoo wants to do much more than change that with a plan that could take two decades to complete.

The zoo says it is in need of many major upgrades. It wants to add more than 30 new buildings without growing past its current 80 acre footprint in City Park. That has required some creative planning, and the staff is promising that visitors will love the changes that are in the works.

Monday's vote was the final vote by the city council.
