New CSU Head Coach Mike Bobo Likes What He Sees At Spring Game

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - There are two big storylines this spring for the Colorado State Rams football team -- new coach Mike Bobo, and picking a quarterback to be the guy that replaces Garrett Grayson.

The Rams held their annual spring game Saturday in Fort Collins.

The new quarterback will still have wide receiver Rashard Higgins, although "Hollywood" Higgins sat out the spring game.

Both quarterbacks put up big numbers in the game. Sophomore Nick Stevens will likely be the starter next year. He threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns in the game. But his competition put up some big numbers as well. Red shirt freshman Coleman Key threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns.

It wasn't a great day for the defense. The green team won 38-34.

Bobo likes what he is seeing from his Rams.

"It's a lot of fun when you come into a new season, and now coming into a new place where you're trying to establish a new identity, a different type of culture," Bobo said. "We're going with what we believe in. But overall there was tremendous effort, guys trying to get better. If we'll continue with that mindset and that attitude we'll have a chance to be where we want to be, and that's competing for a championship."

The Rams open the season hosting Savannah State in Fort Collins on Sept. 5.
