Army Veteran, Family Honored With Custom-Built Home

DENVER (CBS4)- A U.S. Army Veteran and his family toured their new home, still under construction, where they will live mortgage-free.

Army Sgt. Marco Dominguez and his family were surprised by "Operation Finally Home" a charity that helped make their dream home a reality.

Neighbors in Stapleton welcomed Dominguez and his family on Saturday, even though the home is still under construction.

The walls inside contained messages of love and support.

"It's an honor, it's beyond... it's tough to put into words, it really is," said Dominguez. "As a father I can't imagine anything greater than this, it's amazing."

The Dominguez family will relocate from Texas when the construction is complete.

Dominguez served two tours in Iraq where an explosive struck his military vehicle. He suffered blast and burn injuries in the attack. He has been honored with numerous awards including two Purple Hearts, five Army Achievement medals and three Army Good Conduct medals.

Operation Finally Home was established in 2005 and is celebrating 10 years of providing custom-built, mortgage-free homes to America's military heroes and the widows of the fallen.
