Minimum Wage Hike Effort Ends In Colorado Legislature

DENVER (AP) — A Democratic effort to allow cities to raise the minimum wage in Colorado has failed in the state Legislature.

A GOP-controlled Senate committee voted 3-2 Wednesday not to allow local governments to set wages above the statewide minimum wage of $8.23 an hour.

The effort was one of two minimum wage proposals brought by Democrats this year. The other proposal would have asked voters about raising the wage. It failed in the House last month.

Supporters of the local-government wage proposal argued that the bill wouldn't necessarily raise any wages. Republicans feared that the measure could lead to a patchwork on minimum wages.
