Denver Police Say Finding Suspect In Brutal Clerk Attack A Top Priority
DENVER (CBS4) - Police in Denver would like the public's help finding a suspect in a brutal attack on a clerk at a Family Dollar store. Police are especially concerned because the case was very violent and apparently random.
Police said the man entered the Family Dollar store located at 4775 North Yampa Street and started a physical altercation with an employee on March 20. He struck the employee in the face several times with a closed fist. The employee's face was fractured in five places.
"It's pretty scary, my kids go to school across the street," Green Valley Ranch resident Michelle Fernandez said.
"We definitely need to get this guy off the street," resident Josh Kramer said.
Raquel Lopez with Denver police says the suspect became enraged and the violence against the clerk escalated.
"Punching him, fracturing his face in five different places, so he is considered to be dangerous," Lopez said.
Employees told CBS4 the suspect didn't know the clerk and the assault was unprovoked. The man fled in a small black vehicle and took nothing from the store.
Fernandez, who lives nearby with her husband and four children, says the apparently unprovoked attack by a man still on the loose has her concerned for her family's safety.
"I live close to here and if the kids are outside playing that's scary because you never know what somebody might do to your kids," Fernandez said.
The suspect is an African American man. He was wearing a blue shirt and a cross necklace. Police say finding the dangerous man is a top priority.
Fernandez agrees.
"I hope they find him and whoever that did happen to can feel safe and go back to work," she said.
The clerk's current condition hasn't been released.
