Cab Drivers Get To Play Easter Bunny This Weekend

DENVER (CBS4)- Metro Taxi drivers teamed up with the Salvation Army to make sure everyone in the Denver metro area enjoys a happy Easter holiday this weekend.

The Easter bunny handed out Easter baskets to cab drivers at Pennsylvania and 14th Street on Thursday.

The baskets are part of the Salvation Army's Family and Senior Homeless Initiative to help out 90 children this holiday weekend. They want to make sure every child wakes up to an Easter basket on Sunday morning.

"Bad things happen to good people," said Robert McBride, owner and operator of Metro Taxi Denver "… everyone needs a little help now and again. Our drivers and the fine people at the Salvation Army are excited about giving back to our community…"

The drivers will deliver those baskets to families over the next few days in time for Easter.

"One of the effects of homelessness is a loss of community." said Lt. Col. Daniel Starrett from The Salvation Army "I see people facing these circumstances to have burnt out all their resources and feeling very isolated. With this program we can help them rebuild this support network and regain some control."
