CDOT Honors Employees Killed While On The Job
DENVER (CBS4)- The Colorado Department of Transportation honored those employees who were killed while on the job in construction zones.
A total of 58 CDOT employees have lost their lives because of dangerous driving in work zones.
Nationwide, an average of 600 people are killed every year in construction zone accidents with another 37,000 injured.
In Colorado last year, there were nine crashes in work zones. Ten people died in those crashes. The majority of those are drivers or passengers, not workers.
"Drivers need to slow down and pay attention. They need to focus on driving. In the slow-down zone, it's critical to pay attention to the act of driving," said Colorado State Patrol Major Steve Garcia.
CDOT's events were part of National Work Zone Awareness Week.
