Arlene Holmes Publishes Writings From Personal Journal

DENVER (CBS4) - The mother of the Aurora theater shooting suspect has written a book about a disease that changed her son.

Arlene Holmes announced the book in a story published by the Del Mar Times in California. She and her husband told the newspaper they are bracing themselves for their son's trial, and still hope their son's life can be spared in a plea deal.

The book contains prayers and her feelings of guilt for not recognizing her son's mental illness and getting him help.

In one quote Arlene Holmes writes of her son, "People think he is a monster, but he has a disease that changed his brain."

The proceeds from her writings will be donated to mental health services, not to her son or his case.
