Expectant Mom Stabbed In Longmont Calls Child A 'Light Being'

LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - A Longmont mother to be who lost her unborn child in a brutal stabbing attack has issued her first public statement.

Michelle Wilkins posted a thank you message on the GoFundMe page set up on her behalf.

In it the 26-year-old thanks everyone for prayers and positive thoughts, saying they have been deeply felt and helped healing.

She goes to say everyone who has reached out has her eternal gratitude. She concludes her daughter, Aurora, "is a light being now - nothing but ethereal joy and love."

The crime took place in Longmont on March 18 at the home of Dynel Lane. Lane, 34, faces attempted murder and assault charges for allegedly stabbing and injuring Wilkins and cutting the baby from her womb and stealing it. The incident happened after Wilkins came to the home apparently to view baby clothes put up for sale on Craigslist.

An autopsy released last week determined the child was not alive after it left its mother's body.

Wilkins was released from the hospital last week. Her complete statement is as follows:

I wanted to thank everyone again for the prayers and positive thoughts that have been deeply felt and helped my healing. Also for your generous contribution to the gofundme account to help with expenses. I can already feel it's going to be a long journey to physical and emotion recovery, but I am grateful for every person that has reached out to help in their own way. You have my eternal gratitude. Aurora is a light being now, nothing but ethereal joy and love. Forever in my heart.
