City Reveals Statue Honoring César Chávez

DENVER (CBS4) - Mayor Hancock and the César Chávez Peace & Justice Committee of Denver will unveil a statue on Saturday that recognizes the legacy of César Chávez.

The bronze bust of the civil rights leader will be donated to the city and put on display at Denver's César Chávez Park.

César Chávez is responsible for one of the country's most successful civil rights movements, bringing to light the intolerable conditions of farm workers suffering low pay and few benefits.

His legacy of "Si se puede," or Yes, it can be done, lives on as 10 states recognize his birthday as a holiday, Colorado included. César Chávez died in his sleep in April 1993.

The reveal will take place at about 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, at César Chávez Park located at 4131 Tennyson Street.
