Protesters Rally Against Standardized Testing

DENVER (CBS4)- Protesters rallied on the steps of the state Capitol on Wednesday against standardized testing.

Educators, parents and students hoped to deliver their message to Colorado lawmakers. They carried signs that read, "Testing Does Not Equal Learning" and "My Child Is More Than A Score."

Educators claim the amount of testing impacts how much time they have to teach and children have to learn.

Students also argue that schools could find better ways to use the money spent on standardized tests.

"Our school could use this money to buy more books and materials, improve classroom technology, reintroduce art and music programs and most importantly, hire quality educators, " said Fairview High School student Sydney Chinowsky.

Gov. John Hickenlooper says he favors reviewing the standardized tests and eliminating some of them.
