Farmers, Ranchers Gather At Capitol For Ag Day

DENVER (CBS4) - Farmers and ranchers gathered at the capitol on Wednesday to celebrate National Agriculture Day. It's an event that celebrates the abundance provided by Colorado's agriculture industry.

The highlight of the event was the fourth annual chef cook-off. Fourteen culinary teams put together meals in competition for the "top dish" award.

While the event centered around the food, Gov. John Hickenlooper noted how important Colorado-grown food is to the entire country.

"I like to point out to the other governors that in 25 of the top agricultural commodities that are available in this county, Colorado is in the top 10. There aren't very many states that can say that," explained Hickenlooper.

The Colorado Ag Council hopes to net more than $100,000 for the Colorado food bank through this event.
