Pregnant Woman Has Unborn Baby Stolen In Stabbing Incident In Longmont

LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Longmont are investigating a brutal stabbing in which a pregnant woman had her baby removed from her stomach.

According to Cmdr. Jeff Satur, officers responded to a stabbing report in the 1600 block of Green Place Wednesday just after 2:40 p.m.

"Officers arrived on scene and could hear a female calling for help inside the home. Officers entered the home and located a female who had been beaten and stabbed in the stomach," Satur said in a statement.

Officers learned that the victim was pregnant and her baby had been removed. She was taken to Longmont United Hospital and is expected to survive after undergoing surgery.

Satur said the suspect, a 34-year-old woman, also went to Longmont United Hospital with a deceased baby and was taken into custody. She had reported the deceased baby as her own and that she had a miscarriage.

"At the same time another woman showed up with the dead baby," Satur said.

Police put the two stories together and arrested the woman who showed up to the hospital with the deceased baby.

Satur said the victim replied to a Craigslist post offering baby clothes and did not know the suspect.

"She was shopping on Craigslist and she came to this house to buy baby clothes," he said. "When she got here, she got assaulted and was stabbed and her baby was removed."

The suspect has been identified as Dynel Lane, according to Boulder County Jail records. She is charged with murder, first degree assault, and child abuse resulting in death.
