No Ending In Sight For Businesses Along South Broadway Being Burglarized

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Business owners on South Broadway hope surveillance video will eventually lead to arrests after they've been hit by burglars time after time.

The hits just keep on coming for Englewood business owner Mike Roberts.

"We're done with it. We're tired of it," Roberts said.

CBS4 reported in February that at least 20 stores have been broken into along a 2-mile stretch of Broadway since December. Roberts owns Mike's Place Auto and Truck Sales on South Broadway. His shop has been burglarized three times in the past few months.

"Just in the last couple of weeks -- twice," he said.

Roberts has had his cars stolen and tires slashed. Last week surveillance cameras caught a man on a bicycle stealing Roberts' security camera. The crook actually balances on his bike to reach the camera before pedaling off.

The week before surveillance video showed another bandit using a step ladder to steal yet another of Roberts' cameras.

"The next morning I come in, wires everywhere, camera system is gone and there's a ladder sitting there," he said.

Englewood police say most of the burglaries happen between midnight and 6 a.m. They're being tight-lipped about the crimes, but Steve Gomez with Rags to Riches Auto Sales has plenty to say.

"Three weeks ago they stole a tailgate off a Chevy pickup," Gomez said.

Gomez said Rags to Riches Auto Sales is a frequent target of the Broadway bandits.

"They're just thugs. They're out to steal anything they can," Gomez said. "It just gets old after a while."

After a several month crime spree, with no suspects in custody, Roberts has a message for the elusive bandits.

"Quit doing this … go away."

Anyone with information is asked to call Englewood police.
